Planning & Packing Like a Pro

Research & Scheduling

  • Study the schedule: Use the official SDCC app and our scheduler to build your panel and event wishlist.
  • You won't see everything – rank your must-dos and build buffers for long lines.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Convention Center map and shuttle routes.

What to Pack

  • Essentials: Badge (or barcode), refillable water bottle, high-protein snacks, portable charger, comfortable shoes, deodorant, and any necessary medications.
  • Extras: Poster tube/elastic bands, reusable bag, sharpies, safety pins, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light sweatshirt.
  • Cosplayers: Repair kit and consider a backup outfit for one "off day."

Plan Logistics Early

  • Confirm reservations and map out how you're getting to/from the convention each day.
  • Research nearby food options, especially if you have dietary restrictions.
  • Create a wishlist of exclusives, artist alley, & merch to set a spending limit.

Stay in the Loop

  • Subscribe to the SDCC newsletter for updates
  • Follow Comic-Con on social:@comic_con(X, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Follow unofficial experts like@SD_Comic_Conand@cinebeth
  • The Unofficial Comic-Con Blog has a podcast SD Con Cast discussing news and updates weekly.

Thriving During the Con

Daily Con Strategy

  • Arrive early for must-see panels and offsites - lines form fast!
  • Pack light: You'll be walking a ton, only bring what you'll actually use that day.
  • Hydrate & snack regularly - food lines can be long!
  • Recharge as needed - breaks from the hustle are important!

Secure Your Loot

  • Freebies and merchandise go fast. Use Preview Night for must-haves and check for end-of-day deals.

Stay in the Loop

  • The Comic-Con app is a valuable resource for schedules, maps, and event alerts.
  • Follow Comic-Con and unofficial experts on social media.

Navigating the Show Floor

  • Set daily goals: Don't try to see everything – focus on key booths or creators.
  • The floor is busiest mid-day. Hit must-see vendors early or during big panel times.

Panels, Lines & Etiquette

  • Respect the line - no cutting, and be kind to your neighbors.
  • Don't hold seats or block aisles in the halls.
  • Ask before taking photos of cosplayers and never touch their costumes without permission.

Capture the Magic

  • Take photos, but don't live behind your phone.
  • Tag posts with #SDCC and fandom hashtags to connect with the community.

No Pass, No Worries

  • The Gaslamp Quarter transforms with offsites, pop-ups, screenings, after parties, and themed food all week. See our list of offsites!

The Come Down & What's Next

Unpack & Recover

  • Organize your swag, exclusives, and comics. Savor the memories!
  • Give yourself at least one day to recover physically and mentally.
  • Upload photos, junk journal, or make a highlight reel.

Reflect & Review

  • What worked? What would you do differently next year? Start a doc for next year's planning while it's fresh.
  • Note which panels or offsites were worth your time, and which weren't.

Keep the SDCC Spirit Alive

  • Join fandom groups, Discords, or subreddits to stay in the loop year-round.
  • Follow your favorite artists and creators from Artist Alley.
  • Attend smaller cons or meet-ups in your area to keep the momentum going.

Prep for Next Year

  • Mark your calendar for Returning/General badge sales.
  • Watch for the hotel lottery and learn how it works now so you're ready later.
  • Set aside a con fund so next year is less stressful.

Comic-Con isn't just an event – it's a shared community and shared celebration of all things fandom. Whether it's your first time or your fifteenth, SDCC is what you make of it. Plan smart, stay flexible, be kind – and above all, have fun.
